This month is your four-year anniversary at Biofortuna, how have you seen the Company change and evolve in that time?
This is my second stint with Biofortuna, having first worked for the Company between 2015 and 2018. The company has changed significantly since then and has had a complete ‘reboot’.
We have relocated across the Welsh border into our new 19,000ft2 purpose-built facility and Company Headquarters in Deeside. We invested £3million into our state-of-the-art facilities which is something we are very proud of; we now have the capacity and facilities to scale and grow.
Over the years we have steadily grown our capabilities and reputation which is reflected in our client list as we collaborate with some of the most well-known and respected companies within the diagnostic industry.
Why did you decide to work in the diagnostic sector?
Diagnostics is mostly about improving health outcome for people, so that has been my main motivating factor. I have been lucky enough to play a small but significant part in that.
The decentralisation of diagnostics, away from the clinical laboratory to nearer the patient, really started to gain traction in the 1990’s and is evolving all the time, with new and complex technologies being developed and utilised. That makes it interesting.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Working in a leadership role means that every day is different, I can be leading assay design and development, I can be working on system integration or troubleshooting. I ensure that we streamline our product development and manufacturing processes.
I can also be writing documents, meeting with clients, and helping to develop and nurture our team of scientists.
