Here she discusses her role, why she joined Biofortuna and what motivated her to pursue a career in science.

Please describe your role as a Senior Project Scientist?

My role at Biofortuna requires me to work closely with customers building strong relationships to ensure their projects smoothly transition from initial concept, through development and into manufacturing. I use my experience and scientific knowledge to understand the customers’ requirements and help develop quality products that meet their needs.

Why did you decide to work in science?

I was always an inquisitive child; I was forever asking how things work. At school I enjoyed biology the most and this led me to a degree in Cell Biology from the University of Manchester. After university I worked in the biotech industry for a number of years focusing on different cellular and molecular technologies before returning to academia to complete a PhD in Genomics at LJMU. With a career in science, I am always given the chance to learn something new and I still get to ask plenty of questions on how things work.

 

Why did you choose Biofortuna?

I chose Biofortuna as they provided an excellent opportunity to work with customers ranging from academic groups to large multinational companies. Each customer brings a unique technology to learn about and to work with.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day will include splitting my time between initiating technical transfers to the laboratory team and communicating with customers. These communications could be initial meetings to understand their requirements, technical discussions or providing updates for projects. Every project comes with its own unique challenge, and I have found that no two days are the same.

 

What do you like most about your job?

I personally enjoy the challenge of working across multiple projects with many different customers. Biofortuna have crafted a collaborative environment, with colleagues from different teams coming together to meet the customers’ needs and provide innovative solutions.

What do you like to do away from work?

Away from work I am often found enjoying the outdoors with my dog. I am an avid photographer and (weather dependent) I’ll happily spend the weekend on walks photographing the local landscape. Though since I live in the UK and rain is often far more likely than sunshine at the weekends, I get plenty of opportunity to enjoy some reading and baking whilst staying warm and dry indoors.
