Joel Morris

Joel is our Facilities and Procurement Apprentice, playing a key role in helping keep our logistics and laboratory operations running smoothly. From managing international shipments to the assembly of STI kits, he enjoys the balance between hands-on work and essential administrative coordination.

Hi Joel, can you tell us about your role at Biofortuna?

I work as a Facilities and Procurement Apprentice, which covers a range of responsibilities. I manage the receipt of goods and materials by booking them into our database, as well as organising shipments within the UK and internationally for our customers.

In addition, I also get hands-on in the laboratory, where I am responsible for the assembly and shipment of our STI kits.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day for me usually starts with the ‘booking in’ process, logging all of goods that we receive in the morning. After this I like to go into the laboratory to assemble STI kits so I can ensure that we have enough stockpile to send later.

I then manage shipments to send out, which can range from ambient to cold or frozen products that customers have requested. Finally, I organise the STI kits that are due to be despatched that day.

What’s one part of your role that might surprise people?

I think one part of my job that people would be most surprised by is how much my role connects with other departments. Since I handle the control of goods that come in and out, I work closely with different teams across the business.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The part I most enjoy about my role at Biofortuna is that no two days are the same, as I have a wide range of responsibilities. I also enjoy the balance of being hands-on as well as following that up with some desk-based and admin work to carry out.

Why did you choose Biofortuna?

I chose Biofortuna because they were offering the apprenticeship role which stood out to me, and after reading about the company, I liked the idea of working in this sector as I’ve studied and have an interest in biology and the sciences. Another incentive was the type of work offered, as I liked the idea of having a role that is both hands-on and hands-off.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy going on walks with my dogs as well as getting involved in various sports – I play padel, regularly go to the gym and keep up with boxing training. I’m also a Liverpool FC supporter! I also have a varied taste in music, so I like to attend as many music gigs and concerts as I can.
