Hi Caroline, tell us about your role at Biofortuna?

I’m Caroline, Documents Manager and Archivist working in the Quality Team at Biofortuna. My role centres around the meticulous control of electronic and physical documents but also covers a plethora of other duties, so I’m never bored and I’m always organising and checking!

What does a typical day look like for you?

My work days are divided between routine tasks – updating training records, reviewing and authorising documents change requests, tracking the progress of draft documents, archiving physical records – and larger, more challenging projects, such as the reorganisation of the company Shared Drive, preparing for regulatory audits, or the re-imagining and transformation of the risk process that I’ve been working on with the rest of the Quality Team.

What’s one part of your role that might surprise people?

As access to the physical archive is so restricted, I’d like to think people would be both surprised and delighted at the beauty of the rows of carefully ordered and labelled storage boxes hidden in its secure depths!

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Anyone who’s worked with me knows I am very much dedicated to ‘getting it right’ – making lists, meeting deadlines, clearing inboxes, responding quickly, keeping on top of things, sending annoying reminders. Whilst it might not appear to be the most glamorous role, it brings me enormous satisfaction.

Why did you choose Biofortuna?

Professionally I have something of a different story, having worked for 21 years as a secondary school English teacher and teacher training quality lead, followed by a spell as a librarian. Whilst this seemed to many like a strange leap, sometimes you just get a feel for what’s right and I knew I’d be able to utilise my pedantry for grammar and dedication to detail in the managing of documents and data.

Clearly, I’m not a scientist, and so for me the move to Biofortuna was all about the people and the processes. I’ve been provided with a truly delightful working environment, treated and trusted like a professional, and listened to. I also have a great manager that I know I can learn a lot from and whose passion for quality is infectious.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I dedicate time each week to volunteering with Kidsbank, a Chester-based charity that aims to alleviate the impact of child poverty by supporting families who are facing a range of challenges.

I also spend a lot of my time ferrying my own children around to their various clubs, but when I eventually have time to myself, I spend it socialising, cycling and reading – often at the same time if the hideous British weather confines me to the house!
