Here he explains why he chose a career in science and what excites him about his role.

Please describe your role as a Senior Project Scientist?

 I work with customers to help them develop their products and reach key decision points as quickly as possible, making sure we deliver the highest quality service that will meet their requirements. This can be anything from developing a proof-of-concept assay, to converting an existing wet assay into our specialised Lyo bead format.

 

Why did you decide to work in science?

I have always been interested in finding out how things work and trying new things, so that’s what drew me to science from an early age. Science is a great field to work in as it is always evolving. It fascinates me to think that ten or twenty years from now we could be working with completely different technologies.

 

Why did you choose Biofortuna?

I wanted to join a company that is growing, where I could have a genuine impact and see the results of my work day-to-day. After seeing the facilities and meeting the team, I saw how ambitious Biofortuna is and I wanted to be a part of that.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I don’t think there’s a typical day I can describe, my days are very varied. Some days I will be working with the laboratory team on developing a new assay for a customer, and others I will be working on documentation for one of our projects that is transitioning from development to manufacturing.

 

What do you like most about your job?

Working with different  customers means that there’s a lot of variety in the work we do. No two projects are the same and there are always unique challenges with each one. It is really satisfying being able to solve these problems and deliver on their requirements.

 

What do you like to do away from work?

I’m a big Liverpool supporter and have been going to matches since an early age so I try and get to as many games as possible. Outside of that, I enjoy reading fantasy/Sci-Fi novels, going to the cinema and taking long walks in the nearby Welsh countryside.

 

I’ve also started to work a bit on my fitness. I’ve been going on regular runs which to my surprise I have started to enjoy! I have one 10k under my belt and have another in a couple of weeks!
