Chris joined our manufacturing team in August 2023.

Here he discusses his role, why he joined Biofortuna and what motivated him to pursue a career in science.

Please describe your role as a Senior Manufacturing Scientist?

My role at Biofortuna is to help deliver on our important projects, moving from the development phase into the manufacturing phase. My speciality is in this transition from development to high throughput manufacturing, utilising LEAN initiatives to continuously improve our processes and deliver the best quality products, on time in full for our customers.

 

Why did you decide to work in science?

Growing up I watched a lot of sci-fi with my Dad, so that probably had something to do with it! I naturally gravitated towards science at school, graduating in Genetics at Liverpool University and have since worked in biotech manufacturing for 18 years. I enjoy the opportunity to be innovative in optimising processes, and navigating through complex challenges that working in such an environment brings.

 

Why did you choose Biofortuna?

I was excited by the opportunity at Biofortuna and the vision presented to me by the leadership team. We have a fantastic new facility that has been built with a view to increasing future capacity and manufacturing capabilities – I can leverage my experience in industry to support the Biofortuna vision.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Currently I am spending my time working closely with the lyophilisation team, learning about this process, and looking at opportunities to introduce and validate automated solutions, to meet the future requirements of our customers.

 

What do you like most about your job?

I enjoy working within an enthusiastic team of like-minded people, who can collaborate and complement each other in finding novel solutions, with a view to meeting our customer’s needs now, and in the future.

 

What do you like to do away from work?

I used to have hobbies, but now I have a toddler, so a lot of my spare time is spent taking care of my son and trying to prevent the house getting too wrecked… When I do have spare time, I enjoy cooking, gardening, watching football and dreaming of future surf and snowboarding holidays that may come again one day, eventually…
