Meet the team

Joel Sutcliffe

Hi Joel, Tell us a little bit about yourself

Hello there. I’m Joel, Sales Manager at Biofortuna. I  have been at Biofortuna since March 2020 and have seen some amazing changes in that time within the company, the markets we serve and the world in general!

Please describe your role

As a Sales Manager I work across all business streams helping bring our services to our clients. Recently I have been working closely with our Genomics Services division to be a primary point of contact for our strategic partners, helping to solve challenges together and deliver projects on time. For our Custom Development Services, I work with clients to understand their specific requirements and support the transition into our facilities.

What skills do you need to be an effective Sales Manager?

Communication is the most important skill to be an effective Sales Manager and for me that means listening and understanding my client’s needs. For a smooth transition I need to make sure I relay those needs clearly and accurately to our technical specialists. I think it’s also important to be able build relationships with clients and genuinely care about their business and its challenges

What influenced your choice of career?

Having worked in a range of customer facing roles, I wanted to find something that allowed me to use my scientific background but still have the customer interaction. By working in Sales, I get directly involved in a wide range of development projects and help our customers bring new products to market.

What do you like most about your job?

The most rewarding aspect of my job is understanding that the work we do helps our customers improve the standards of clinical diagnosis, consumer health, environmental testing and detection testing.

Why did you choose to work at Biofortuna?

Before the pandemic, I was looking for an opportunity to return to the diagnostics sector. Over the past two years Biofortuna has grown into a really exciting place to work, providing a wide range of opportunities and services.

What do you like to do away from work?

I am currently living in a restoration/renovation project at my Victorian terrace house. Over the next few months, I will be plastering rooms using traditional methods, levelling and replacing the downstairs floorboards and laying a range of floorings including parquet wood, carpets and tiles.
